Sycamore Creek Odyssey of the Mind

Our two Sycamore Creek OM teams participated in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Competition in Chapel Hill on March 7.  These students had to dedicate long hours of thinking, developing, and practicing solutions to problems which they presented in a drama situation.  Thanks to Susan Douglas and Ben Ingram for coaching!

Both teams did a phenomenal job with presentations and the Heracles Team was awarded third place in their competition!

CONGRATULATIONS SYCAMORE CREEK OMers!

Heracles Team:  Seth D., Emme H., Sash B., Ezrie B., Maya S., Will G., and Daniel C.

Jump Rope for Heart is a Big Success

With Track 2 just getting started, our school total is not complete, but to date, Sycamore Creek has raised over $5800. This is a tribute to the hard working, generous students we have here. What an awesome way to improve our jumping skills while focusing on keeping our heart in great shape and at the same time stage a fight against the #1 cause of death in the US, heart attacks and strokes.

Mr. Miller will be sending out reminders for students who participated about the Celebration days. Tracks 1, 2, and 3 will celebrate on April 9th and Track 4 on April 22nd.

First In Fitness Ties for Third Place

The inaugural Sycamore Creek First In Fitness team opened with a bang at this year’s annual event. We finished eight points out of second place and represented our school well with not only our athletic ability, but with our attitudes and sportsmanship as well. Mr. Miller received several compliments from other coaches and parents from other schools about our student athletes. We were able to be competitive in the overall total due to six first place finishers. In all, 19 of our 47 athletes received places.

Dr. Seuss Displays

Sycamore Creek students and staff celebrated Dr. Seuss and Read Across America by creating hallway displays based on their favorite Seuss books. Take a look at their hard work!

Third Grade CogAT Test Scores

Parents of third grade students will soon receive their child’s scores from the Cognitive Abilities Test. The CogAT measures general thinking and problem-solving skills and indicates how well students use these skills to solve verbal, non-verbal, and quantitative problems. Test results from CogAT are only one assessment of many that assist school personnel in planning effective instructional programs.
